Brafitting ABC
We've prepared a short guide for you on how to properly choose a bra. In the following article, you'll learn what to look for when selecting a bra, how to choose the right size, and how to tell if a bra doesn't fit properly. In the future, this will help you avoid falling straps, red marks on the skin, and even discomfort in the shoulders and back, especially in the case of very large breasts.
How to properly choose a bra?
Choosing a bra can be overwhelming, especially since there are many factors to consider: band size, cups, straps, wings, center of the bra, closure, and underarms. We are here to help guide you through the process. So, let’s start with the two most important aspects: the band and the cups. A bra size consists of these two parts – the number refers to the band size, and the letter indicates the cup size.
How to correctly measure your band size?
The band size is undeniably a crucial aspect when choosing the right bra. Today, we know that to relieve pressure from the shoulders and spine, we should transfer some of the weight of our breasts to the torso, which can be done with a properly fitted band. Take a measuring tape and measure directly under your bust on bare skin, while exhaling. Make sure the tape fits snugly under your bust and is level at the front and back. Next, compare your measurements with the size chart.
How to properly check your cup size?
Once the band size is determined, we can move on to the cup size, which is the second part of the bra size. Again, using a measuring tape, measure your bust at its fullest point, over the nipples, while leaning forward slightly. Ensure the tape is not too tight like when measuring under your bust but has a bit of slack. For women with sagging breasts, we recommend taking measurements while wearing a soft bra. After noting down your bust measurement, consult the size chart to determine your cup size.
Remember that despite taking careful and accurate measurements, the numbers are just a guide and serve as an indicator to help you find the right size that will meet your needs and ensure comfort.
5 things to check when choosing a bra:
- The band fits correctly when the bra doesn’t move up when you raise your arms.
- The cups are too small if the breasts spill out from the bottom or top.
- The cups are too large if they gap or wrinkle excessively.
- The cups are too small if the center doesn’t sit flat against your chest.
- Always fasten a new bra on the loosest hook, as fastening it on the tightest hook will cause it to stretch out too quickly.
